Intarsia is an ancient art form of creating a mosaic picture from many unique pieces of wood.
I use many different types and colors of woods including many "EXOTIC WOODS" from South America such as African Mahogany,
Bubinga, Padauck, and many others. These exotic woods have natural colors and have beautiful rich looking grains
that run throughout the entire piece of wood. Such colors as red, purple, yellow with red streaks, brown with yellow
streaks are only a few of the beautiful variety of colors. I also use beautiful woods from North America
such as Black Walnut, Birdseye Maple, and various Cherry woods just to name a few.
I begin by hand picking the different woods so that the colors and grains will truly enhance the beauty
of each woodworking that I do. I then cut out each piece of wood with a scroll saw and hand sand each piece so that
every piece of wood fits together in the mosaic and gives a three dimensional effect. Each and every woodworking is
unique in its own way and one of a kind with exquisite workmanship. An average project has approximately 80 to
150 individual pieces that have been cut out and hand sanded, so many many hours and lot of personal touch go into each and
every woodworking. A forest scene that I made had 550 individual pieces. It is very exciting as each woodworking
is finished because they are so unique. I use no colored stain on my wood, only a clear Minwax product that enhances
the natural beauty of the colors and grains of the wood and several coats of Minwax satin polyurethane to protect the
wood. Please scroll down on the pictures below. Each picture is listed with it 's size and price.
These also make outstanding gifts. You can click on the picture to enlarge it.
